Announcement

We are pleased to announce the call for applications for participation in 8. International Master Classes of New Music COURSE, which will take place from 10 through 19 of October 2019 as part of 25. International Festival of Contemporary Music Contrasts.

The deadline for submissions is July 31, 2019 (23:59 UTC).

Five composers will be teaching at the master classes:
Šimon Voseček (Austria - Czech Republic)
Sławomir Wojciechowski (Poland)
Anna Korsun (Ukraine - Germany)
Sergej Maingardt (Germany)
Mehmet Can Özer (Turkey)

 

They will have individual classes with participants, give open lectures, lead seminars, take part in the participants' presentations and rehearsals with Ensemble Nostri Temporis musicians, who will give premiere performances of compositions by the participants of the master classes.

 

Young composers up to 30 years old (born after January 1st 1989), who would like to participate in the master classes, should send their applications by email to imcnm.course@gmail.com

Please start the subject line of the email with the following: COURSE

In the email please give a brief information about yourself (first and last name, country and birth date).

Please attach the following information to the email:
- scan of the first page of your passport or other document that mentions your birth date (as a jpg or png file);
- biography in English (as odt, docx or doc file);
- a photo in color (jpg or png file);
- list of works in English including the date written and ensemble (as odt, docx or doc file);
- scores of three works (as pdf files) written not earlier than 2016, that you consider to be the most representative of your work;
- recordings of performances of these works (if available; audio or video) or hyperlinks to such recordings.

 

The private information provided by you as part of your COURSE application will not be published publicly anywhere and will remain private. We will not provide this information to third parties.

The application is free.

The results of the application selection process will be published on August 10th 2019.

The results of the selection process will be publicly announced on the online resources of the master classes:

Additionally, every applicant will be notified about the results of the selection by email.

 

All participants will have a free entrance ticket to all concerts of 25. International Festival of Contemporary Music Contrasts taking place in Lviv from October 4 through 20, 2019.

Participation requires a fee (the fee only includes the participation in the master classes. The participants should cover their travel, accommodation and subsistence costs themselves. The organizers will provide all required information about the local prices for accommodation in hotels and hostels in Lviv.)

 

The participation fee has to be paid by bank transfer before August 31st of 2019.

 

The fee amount is 3000 UAH for participants from Ukraine and 200 EUR for participants from abroad.

Each participant whose application was selected will receive bank account details for the payment of the fee.

The receipt confirming the payment should be sent to imcnm.course@gmail.com before 31.08.2019 (23:59 UTC). If the payment confirmation will not be received, the invitation will be cancelled and another participant will be selected instead.

Condition of participation

1. During the master classes each participating composer will have two individual lessons with each of the five teachers. Duration of the lesson is 45 minutes.

2. Each selected participant of 8. COURSE should prepare a composition in advance to the master classes. The duration of the piece should be 3 to 5 minutes and it should be written for the following instrumentation:

flute

oboe

clarinet in Bb

cello

double bass

3. Each participating composer will have one consultation with Ensemble Nostri Temporis. Duration of the consultation: 25 minutes.

4. Each participating composer will have two rehearsals with Ensemble Nostri Temporis for the preparation of the premiere performance of his or her composition, completed during the master classes. Overall duration of the two rehearsals: 70 minutes.

5. Each participating composer should prepare a presentation about his or her work. Duration of the presentation:

up to 20 minutes.

6. On a closing seminar, which will take place on 18.10.2019, the teachers of the master classes will recommend one candidates, who will receive a commission (with an honorary fee -300 Euro) from the organizers of 8. COURSE to compose a work for ensemble to be premiered in 2020 in one of Ensemble Nostri Temporis' projects. The duration of the work should be up to 12 minutes.

7. On the last day of the master classes (19.10.2019), as part of Night of Contrasts, a special project within

25. International Festival of Contemporary Music Contrasts, the final concert of master 8. COURSE will take place. The works by participating composers will be premiered by Ensemble Nostri Temporis. Additionally, works by the teachers of the master classes will be performed.

Audio and video recording will be made at the concert, and after being processed in studio, the recording will be provided by the organizers to every participant with the right to use it freely. Audio recordings of the compositions of the participants of 8. COURSE will be included in a general electronic database of all COURSE editions.
