COURSE are the first annual international master classes for young composers in Ukraine, dedicated to stimulating creative activity within the community of Ukrainian musicians as well as helping young composers establish new creative contacts with their colleagues from other countries.
Founded in collaboration with Goethe-Institut in Ukraine in 2012, COURSE has become one of the leading composer master classes of new music in Eastern Europe. Until 2015, master classes were held annually in Kyiv in March. Since 2016, COURSE have been held in Lviv on the basis of the Lviv National Philharmonic, and since 2018 master classes have become an education component of the Contrast International Festival of Contemporary Music, organized by the Lviv National Philharmonic.
During the nine years of COURSE's existence, 74 young composers from Germany, Poland, Latvia, Greece, Italy, Turkey, South Korea, China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Belarus and Ukraine participated in the master classes, as well as 2 young Ukrainian musicologists.
28 established composers from Germany, Austria, Poland, Czech Republic, Russia, Turkey and Ukraine taught at COURSE.
The active time of submersion in artistic activity, exchange of professional experience, thoughts and ideas; creative work under the guidance of established composers; presentation of one's own work; consultations with musicians of Ensemble Nostri Temporis and preparation of a premiere of one's music – all of this is COURSE.
The format of the master classes encompasses morning, afternoon and evening events, both public (presentations, lectures, discussions, concerts) and individual classes with teachers and consultations with members of Ensemble Nostri Temporis.
